About Tom

Tom, originally from Colchester, Essex, and now based in London, teaches singing, whilst also being an auditioning performer.

Having studied at Colchester Royal Grammar School, alongside developing a love for all things theatre at Theatre Arts Academy (formerly Theatre Fun; principal Karen Binks), he obtained a First Class Honours degree in Music from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2017. At Royal Holloway, he studied voice under Graham Titus, and Robert Greenhill. In 2015 he was given the opportunity to musically direct The Last Five Years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where his musical direction received five-star reviews.

In 2018, Tom graduated from the one-year postgraduate course in Performance (Musical Theatre), at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, studying voice under Holly Aisbitt, Marco Morbidelli, and Martin Leberman.

Tom is a freelance MD and vocal teacher, working for leading centres across Surrey, London, and Essex, including Performance Preparation Academy, Urdang Academy, and PrepYourRep. He is currently Head of Singing and Musical Supervisor at The International Academy of Musical Theatre. His first professional position after graduating was Assistant Musical Director for Aria Entertainment's production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Aspects of Love' at Southwark Playhouse, and since he has gone to work on productions at Cadogan Hall, PPA, and the IAMT.

Tom loves working one-on-one with performers on their audition material and repertoire, and loves to further his knowledge from like-minded performers and creatives. Click on the “Book Online” page link above if you would like to book a session today!

The music itself is well played by MD Richard Bates... he plays one of the two pianos (Tom Chippendale takes the other, and always sounds perfectly as one with his director)
